Evalutions for Foundation Portfolio - Thurs 29th April

The evalutations for your Foundation Portfolios will be in P2 tomorrow - Thursday 29th April - periods 1 and 2. Please be on time to the lesson. Make sure that you are well prepared and ready to present your work.

Homework Task - Set Thursday 22nd April

Use the weekend to get up to date with your evaluations. You should aim to have completed your powerpoint/prezi and written your answers to the evalution questions in full and posted them on to your blog by Monday 26th. Please make sure that you keep to the deadlines set.

Evaluation Presentation for Music Magazine

The evaluation of your music magazine must be completed by next Wednesday (28th). You must continue working on your evaluations and answering the given questions.

It is up to you which method you use. You will presenting your Powerpoint or Prezi to the class.

You will also have to answer the evaluation questions fully on your blogs.

Here are the evaluation questions, again:

• In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real
media products?

• How does your media product represent particular social groups?

• What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

• Who would be the audience for your media product?

• How did you attract/ address your audience?

• What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

• Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

YOU WILL PRESENT YOUR EVALUATIONS TO THE CLASS NEXT THURSDAY (29TH). I WILL ASSESS AND LEVEL YOUR PERFORMANCE. PLEASE BE READY AND WELL PREPARED.

Deadline for Foundation Portfolio is Wednesday 31st March

The deadline for your foundation portfolio is looming. You must have finished the front cover, contents page and double page spread of your music magazine and upload the 3 images from photo shop onto your blogs by next Wednesday's deadline.

Please make sure that your blogs are all upto date - you MUST have uploaded the preliminary task - front cover and contents page of your school magazine - otherwise you lose 15 marks from your overall final mark.

Absentees - Natasha V and Julian - I am very concerned as I haven't seen you for almost 2 weeks now - that's around 8 of practical media lessons you have missed. I have not seen any evidence of your coursework so far! The deadline for this is next Wednesday! Let me know how you're getting on.

Mock ups for Music Magazine and Production Work

Please make sure that you have uploaded the mock ups of your front cover, contents page and double page spread of your music magazine to your blogs.

We will be starting our practical production work this week and will be working on Photo shop. Please make sure that you organise actors for your planned images and sort out any props or costumes that you may need. Cameras will be provided in Monday's lesson for those who have not yet sorted out their images.

Remember that the deadline for your production work is looming and that we have only until March 31st to complete your practical assignment. Please use the time wisely and keep up to date with the work set.

Homework Task - Set Thursday 4th March

Your homework task is to design a power point presentation for a music magazine of your choice. You must use your class case study notes and complete further research of the magazine to include details of the following in your power point:

History
Facts/Statistics
Content
Images
Audience

You must upload this power point onto your blogs.

The deadline for this is Monday 8th March.

Your homework task is as follows:

Title: Uses and Gratifications - Applying Theory

Using the notes from the research you did in today's lesson you must give examples of how the magazine you are studying gratifies its readers' need for:

- escapism
- personal relationships
- personal identity
- surveillance

This must be completed and uploaded onto your blogs by Thursday 4th March.

Ella, Natasha, Nicole, Hope, Tasha - you have all missed 3 lessons this week. That's three hours of Media! You have missed lots of work and must catch up. Details of homework tasks are on my blog. You must make a real effort to attend lessons more regularly and take it upon yourself to catch up on the work missed. Remember, when looking at your blogs, assessors will look all the way back to January to look at the work you have done in preparation for your foundation portfoli. If there are items missing and gaps, questions will be asked and this could affect your final mark. Please, please, please don't fall behind!

Homework Task - Set Monday 22nd Feb

Using the notes from the case studies we did in class, you must explain how either KERRANG or NME magazine attracts its audience. Think about genre expectations, design, content and language used. You should think about how these details are linked to audience. You must blog your analysis.

The homework which was set in class on Monday 22nd is due by this Wednesday (24th).

Preliminary Task - School Magazine

Some very promising work so far, Year 12! An excellent range of images taken from around the school and some interesting design ideas too! Tomorrow is our last practical lesson on this. We will be in E12 and you will have the lesson to finish your front cover and contents page. You will also need to write an evaluation of your completed work. I will give you all an outline of this evaluation in tomorrow's lesson. Remember, any work you miss or any work that remains unfinished in the lesson must be completed in your own time. Please try to keep up to date with all the work set.

Catch-up work for Janay, Jodi and Tasha

Ladies, you need to put together a mock up of the front cover and contents page of your school magazine. Look back to the examples we looked at from St Mark's, Quad and Newman for inspiration. You also need to go out and collect a range of images for your work. You must include a medium close up somewhere in your design. We will be in E12 on Monday so you can upload the pics and start working on Photoshop. It's good to see that you are actively looking to catch up the work you have missed.

Homework Task for Thursday's Practical lesson

Your task is to upload your completed images of the mock up of your school magazine cover and contents page, ready for tomorrow's lesson.

You must then write plan of what you intend to create and how you will go about this. Think about the images and camera angles you will use (also mise-en-scene), text, colour scheme, stories and the overall layout of the finished piece.

Remember that you must include a medium close-up shot somewhere in your finished product.

Tomorrow I will let you loose with the digital cameras, so make sure that you come to the lesson well prepared with your plan in mind and written up onto your blogs. I will be checking.

Homework Task 2

Your homework this week is to find and textually analyse any magazine front cover. This could include any genre (music, science, TV, nature, women's mag, home, etc).

You must annotate the cover, picking out specific features and their intended effect. Think back to the examples of students' work from last year I shared with you in class today.

You must take a picture of your work and then upload the image and textual analysis onto your blog.

The deadline in Monday 1st Feb. Please bring your work on paper to the lesson.

Evaluation of Nature Magazine Front Covers

A promising start made by you all. Everyone seems to have mastered the art of photoshop and have demonstrated their skills in the design of their nature magazine front covers. Well done to all and keep up the great work! Check your own blogs for my individual comments on each of your performances.

Homework Task 1

Very productive lesson this morning - your work seems very promising! Good to see that alot of you have now mastered the art of photo-shop. The details for your first homework task is as follows:

Your task is to upload your original picture and the finished front cover of your nature magazine onto your blogs. You must then write a technical evaluation of what you have done. You need to explain why you have chosen to use certain images/effects/colours/text - think about dentotation and connotation.

The deadline is Monday 25th Jan.
